The only way to secure your loot and get it decontaminated is to call an evacuation helicopter and have it collect your items for decontamination. Gear that is collected in the Dark Zone is contaminated, and must be properly cleaned and cataloged before it can be added to your stash. This can be a lot of fun but if you die you lose significantly more DZ funds and XP. You become the hunted as everyone will try to kill you and collect the bounty on your head. Once you become Rogue the scenario that you are in changes dramatically. If you open fire upon other players within the DZ you are allowed a few accidental shots before you go Rogue. Some Dark Zone chests do not have a rank requirement to open, but others will only open for players with rankings of 20, 30 or higher. Your DZ Rank also allows you to open certain chests scattered around the area. Same goes for the amount of DZ credits you lose. Usually these penalties aren't too bad, somewhere between 25 and 50 DZXP, but if you die as a Rogue Agent the penalty will be signifigantly higher.
Unlike in the PvE world, however, your DZ Rank can also decrease if you die in the Dark Zone.
